Seventy Seven – The New York Second

It was in Chicago that I found this little 2-bar walking bass riff amongst the piano keys. I played it endlessly and realized it could be something out of the Real Book – the book of jazz standards – so I decided to write Real Book-standard-like chords and theme to go along with it. The theme’s rhythm is like someone saying ‘seventy seven, seventy seven’, and I realized that Seventy Seven would be an appropriate title for a Real Book song.

Now sometimes people say “that’s a nice standard, is that from the Real Book?”. And of course I answer honestly. But if anyone hears about a next edition, please let me know.
